Note:

The accompanying book details Mathieu’s artistic career as a leading Abstract Expressionist artist from 1944-1968. Early in his career, Mathieu considered himself a historical painter, working with abstract subject matter in a frenzied, animated quick sketch manner that is reminiscent of Salvador Dali’s Surrealist style. His mannerisms aligned his work with the American Lyrical Abstraction movement and he gained international recognition for his large scale energetic canvases as early as the 1950s.
