In “The Language of Light,” the artist remarks: “I’m fascinated by the impact of symbols which function like players on the stage of a painting. That’s how I see the interplay of objects amid the contrast of candlelight and electric light.” In regard to “The Warrior” illustrated in this article, Thompson states: “For a strong psychological effect and an honest portrayal of my friend in ‘The Warrior’ it was crucial right from the start to compose the subject’s attitude along with the strong lighting, so the two could work in harmony.”
