This watercolour is one of the paintings saved by the efficient work of the London Fire Brigade and the co-operation of the night staff of Messrs. Walpole’s when bombs dropped on the roof of the Cooling Galleries, London about twelve o’clock one night in 1940. Most of the works were safely held in the hands of the British Navy as stated in The Cooling Gallery label verso
