COLLECTION OF 13 PHOTOGRAPHS INCLUDING: 5 SELF-PORTRAITS; 4 BEACH VIEWS; 3 BEACH AND SKY VIEWS; AND 1 FOREST VIEW

Thirteen gelatin silver prints including the 5 self-portraits, each variously inscribed and annotated with exposures in pencil verso; the 4 beach views; each variously annotated in pencil verso, one being further inscribed in pen and ink in an unknown hand: “This one does what I want it to in the sand, but the test strips (1 1/2 exposure increments) show I have to ‘iron it out’” verso; the 3 beach and sky views similarly annotated verso with exposure details in pen and ink, with one in pencil, verso; the forest view, similarly annotated verso in pencil. Each unsigned and unframed.
Various image sizes 4.3" x 6.5" — 11 x 16.5 cm.; 3" x 4.5" — 7.6 x 11.4 cm.; 4.5" x 6" — 11.4 x 15.2 cm.; 4.3" x 6.5" — 11 x 16.5 cm.

Gifted from the artist to a former student of Ansel’s photography class;
Gifted from the student to the present Private Collection, Toronto

Note:

The above photographs were taken in Ansel’s home studio while teaching students how to take photographs in the mid 1980’s. The self-portraits were reportedly taken by Ansel himself. At the end of the class, Ansel allowed students to take their choice of photographs he took during that day’s teaching.
