CONDITION DETAILS

Original canvas, not relined. Fine craquelure and mottling throughout the painting's surface. The paint in the sky looks flattened and scrubbed to the grain. Small pieces of tape or white compound used verso or varnish to cover the small holes/tears in the bottom portion of the canvas.
Black light examination: shows old overpaint in the sky with large, sweeping horizontal overpaint lines, small overpainted holes or tear that are in the lower sky at left and in the foreground corresponding to the verso with the small tears filled with compound or varnish. Areas in the figures have old varnish remaining.
