Note:

The gallery document verso reads: "This is an historically important work by Richard Buckner, probably dating from the 1840s. Bucker exhibited frequently at the Royal Academy and was noted for his Society Portraits often on the Grand Scale".

CONDITION DETAILS

Original canvas, not re-lined, stamped verso indistinctly by a British maker. Very faint craquelure. One paint chip missing above the "B" of the artist's signature. Under blacklight there are signs of overpaint in the face and white cloak.
