Note:

According to Jop and Mayken Jonkman (curator of 19th century art at the RKD Netherlands Institute), this work is signed by another hand. In their opinion this is not a work by Dutch artist Jozef Israëls (1824-1911) but by an unknown Dutch artist of the 19th century.

CONDITION DETAILS

Thin varnish or abrasion to lower-left corner. Losses to frame. There are traces of large sweeping, strengthening lines of overpaint in the folds of the woman's dress.
Black light: The signature is dark as it was added by another painter and it is not the signature of Jozef Israëls. .
