Note:
According to the correspondence between the consignor and the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs (now Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada), the inscription on the underside of the piece reads “Innutuuarq Tuktungguarqturq.” An approximate translation suggest it reads, “A lone man who had caught a caribou,” or “an image of a person who is by himself and had caught a caribou.”
