Lot Report

Note:

Kenojuak made this image on a lino block that was adhered to a piece of maple, and we printed it on the Vandercook proofing press. She engraved it herself and Pitseolak printed it on the old press - it was the first time we ever used that particular method in this studio. But it echoes back to the very beginning, when images were carved in linoleum and printed by hand. This used multiple colours, though, including silver in the blend, and Kenojuak registered them herself. It’s a very subtle, beautiful print.

William Ritchie, “The Modern Atelier,” printed in “Cape Dorset Prints, A Retrospective, Fifty Years of Printmaking at the Kinngait Studios”, Leslie Boyd Ryan, pg 228.
