Lot 159
PITSEOLAK ASHOONA (1904-1983)
Note:
“‘When I was a child, I remember seeing older, grown-up people playing this game. The would have a long string and when they would strike the ball, it would go very far. Not too long ago, when I saw ‘nayouta,’ that was what it was called, I was thinking that they had made it just for children. I didn’t like how it was being played now. In those old days, everybody was lively and happy and had a lot of energy, and it was so beautiful.”
Pitseolak Ashoona, as quoted in the Cape Dorset Annual Graphics Collection, 1978, p. 65-6, pl. 61
