This doll was collected by Dr. Nelles Silverthorne, who was a pediatrician at the hospital for Sick Children in Toronto for over 50 years. A key figure in the development of a vaccine for pertussis (whooping cough), he also worked on vaccines for polio virus, and meningitis. A pioneer in the use of oxygen tents, he was also one of the first physicians to use penicillin.
