Note:

Dallaire left Montreal for Paris, twenty years after his first sojourn, in the spring of 1958.

Carani writes, of this period of the artist’s work: “Cette tendance a l’elimination de la figure trouve des appplications d’un tout autre ordre dans un groupe de compositions de 1958 qui presentent des effets de la calligraphie chinoise...En faisant courir la transcription de la complainte de meme que la signature est l’annee sur leurs plans respectifs, de couleur jaune, le peintre joue de contraste entre les qualites de grafies et les surfaces qui les accueillent.”
