Lot 115
JACQUES GODEFROY DE TONNANCOUR, A.R.C.A.
Provenance:
Marlborough-Godard, Toronto/Montreal
Note:
James Purdie, writing for The Globe and Mail, April 23, 1977 says “The insect series, which derives from de Tonnancour’s beginnings as an illustrator of entomological texts, deals with time as container and preserver of artifacts. The artist himself compares the aim of the paintings to the function of sedimentary rocks in preserving fossils or of tombs in defending the dead from the slow devouring of time and its ally, the worm.”
