Provenance:

W. Scott and Sons, Montreal.
Private Collection, Arlington, Virginia.

Literature:

Laurier Lacroix, Suzor-Cote: light and matter, Musee du Quebec, Quebec, 2002, pages 244-245, illustrated.

Note:

In describing the importance of the subject of this work, Lacroix points to Le Remmancheur as a member of “the health-care team most relied upon by the habitants, who were frequently exposed to physical injury in their rural labours… The services of the bonesetter, as he was informally called, were essential and he occupied a respected place in the community. Passing as a practitioner of the healing arts, the bonesetter had a natural gift for treating certain types of trauma and used various manipulative techniques to reset dislocated bones or soothe painful muscles”.
