ALEXANDER YOUNG JACKSON, O.S.A., R.C.A.
  • ALEXANDER YOUNG JACKSON, O.S.A., R.C.A.
Provenance:

Private Collection, Pictou, Nova Scotia (acquired circa 1936).
By descent to the present owner, Nova Scotia.

Literature:

Naomi Jackson Groves, A.Y.’s Canada, Toronto/Vancouver, 1968, page 114.

Note:

Groves writes that the term “Algoma” seems to apply rather loosely to a vast area stretching from south of Sudbury westward to the region above Sault Ste. Marie, more or less: “It was probably in the early 1930’s that (Jackson) began to visit the country in behind McGregor Bay, with its hill-bound lakes rejoicing in names such as Nellie, Grace and Gem...This country, with its vast receding stretches of long-rolling forms, is the type that J.E.H. MacDonald and A.Y. have both loved to tackle.”
