Note:

According to the owner of this work, the music teacher depicted in the painting is believed to be enamoured with his attractive student, watching her lovingly in the mirror during the lesson. The original source of the story is not known, but has passed through generations of the consignor's family, the painting having been in the family since the early twentieth century.
