This painting was commissioned by Maclean’s magazine for an article titled “The Fraser: Six Hundred Miles of Savage Force.”, which appeared in the November 21st, 1959 issue. In the article, the artwork is reproduced with the following quotation: “Where the river stretches out over the reed-choked flats farther down, it evokes a feeling of quiet and mystery.”
