Note:

Having attended five of the annual influential Emma Lake workshops, two of which were led by Americans Clement Greenberg and Kenneth Noland, it is not surprising that the artist adopted abstraction early in his career. In 1988, he himself was a workshop leader at Emma Lake.

By stripping his art down to its very essentials, Perehudoff placed himself within a demanding international community of artists committed to the advancement of modern art. Each decade of painting produced a unique body of artwork. His mature working method was quite distinctive: he would paint on unstretched canvas on the floor while listening to classical music. Like Jack Bush, Perehudoff worked as a commercial artist and shared Bush’s concern for colour. This work attests to Perehudoff’s strength as a supberb colourist.
