Note:

MacDonald painted in several different and diverse areas of the country in 1922. His travels took him to Algoma, Coboconk and Gull River and Nova Scotia. Duval describes the Gull River: “It is serene country compared to Algoma, and [MacDonald’s] paintings of the district reflect it…”
The Gull River runs near the town of Minden, Ontario, and flows through Gull Lake and into Balsam Lake, which forms part of the Trent-Severn Waterway.
