Provenance:
The Snow Goose Gallery, Ottawa, ON, 1980
Private Collection, Charlottesville, VA
Note:
Before taking up drawing, Kenojuak Ashevak expressed her visions in stone in the mid 1950s, and continued carving a modest number of sculptures until the end of her long career. The present sculpture dates to her most energetic carving period, which spanned the very late 1970s and early 1980s. The subject of the perched bird at the end of flight is almost synonymous with Kenokuak's sculptural investigations, often distinguished as it is here by the artist's lively depiction of a bird's open beak and upswept tongue.
