Note:

Ningiukulu Teevee (often affectionately called Ning) began drawing seriously in 2001, and has quickly gained recognition for her playful and inventive translations of traditional myths into images sometimes incorporating contemporary objects and iconography originating from the south.

No Turning Back depicts the notorious trickster Raven, who in Western Arctic and Northwest Coast traditions is often associated with the origin of the world’s light, and the theft of the sun. Raven appears here in humanoid form, and is seated with one hand over a pair of floral kamiks on its feet. While the meaning of Raven’s actions is not made clear by Teevee, Raven’s sometimes mischievous, sometimes piratical proclivities might suggest to the viewer that we are catching a glimpse of something worth keeping an eye on.
