Note:

Julian Trevelyan, nephew of historian G.M. Trevelyan, was born in Dorking in 1910. In the early 1930s, he studied in Paris under S.W. Hayter. During this time period, Trevelyan gained his reputation as a Surrealist painter. He has always been influenced by his travels to Malta, France, Italy, India and Africa. He lived in a studio overlooking the Thames at Chsiswick. He was married to the artist Mary Fedden.
