Note:

Enlisted with the 48th Highlanders Regiment at Toronto, Ont., May 1st, 1896. He proceed to South Africa as a member of the 2nd (Special Service) Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment of Infantry, Oct 30th, 1899. Allotted Service Number 1146. Repatriated to Canada in Nov 1900. Promoted to Sergeant with the 12th Regiment (York Rangers) April 6th, 1901. Fought in France during WW1, returned to Britian April 27th, 1919 and was repatriated to Canada on posting to No. 2 District Depot, Toronto, On., June 24th, 1919.
