Provenance:

Dominion Gallery, Montreal
The Jean and Joseph Connolly Collection, Montreal

Literature:

Esther Trepanier, Marian Dale Scott: Pioneer of Modern Art, Musee du Quebec, 2000, page 205 and page 207 for a closely related work entitled Translation (Iconic) No.1, (Collection of the Musee d’art contemporain, Montreal) reproduced.

Note:

Trepanier describes the Translation series as heralding a major formal renewal for Scott. In this series, the artist “retains iconographic and formal elements from earlier works but incorporates them into a whirlwind of pigment and abstract signs that accentuate the expressionist aspect of Scott’s approach”.
