Note:

This lot is accompanied by a typed letter from Louis Ryaux, dated at Paris on February 1983, stating the title: “Leda et le cygne” and dating the work circa 1680. In Ryaux’s opinion, he states the painting is not by the hand of Louis de Boulogne (Boullogne).

Louis de Boulogne executed a very similar canvas in reverse of this scene entitled “Venus, Hymen el les Amours” measuring 162 x 178 cm. in 1688 as well as other scenes of this subject that have been Attributed to his hand or Circle.
