"LANDSCAPE WITH CASTLE, MEN AND HORSES" (ITALIAN LANDSCAPE FORMERLY ATTRIBUTED TO NICHOLAS POUSSIN, LATER GIVEN TO RUISDAEL AND BERCHEM)
Oil on canvas; unsigned, inscribed "Claude" (Lorrain) in black ink to the verso. Accompanied by declarations and letters attributing the landscape to Jacob van Ruisdael (Circa 1628-1682) and the figures and cattle to Nicolaes Petersz Berchem (1620–1683), both last quarter of the 17th Century.

With the Worrall Art Gallery, Toronto ascribed to "Nikola Poussin," the purchase by the gallery approved by Fred Haynes, Director of the Ontario Art Gallery and Mr. Robson, its President accompanied by a dated declaration, at Toronto by Solicitor Meyer Rothstein on June 2nd, 1930;
With a declaration from art collector, Solomon Wenroth, signed and dated June 2nd, 1930 at Toronto, where he and Mr. Meadows of the T. Eaton Co., Ltd., Department of Old Masters, ascribe the landscape to "Ruysdael" and the figures and cattle to "Berchem";
Purchased by Meyer Rothstein, Toronto as an Italian Landscape, by a 17th Century Dutch artist, Attributed to Nicholas Poussin (more likely a Ruisdael and Berchem which he sold to;
Rebecca Eisen (wife of Solomon Eisen), Toronto with an Indenture naming them, dated June 2, 1930, accompanying the lot;
With the Art Gallery of Toronto on February 27, 1956, as "Landscape with Castle, Men and Horses", accompanied by their letter, signed by Charles E. McFadden, Registrar, dated March 2, 1956, noting it is an "unsigned, authentic 18th Century French painting";
Thence to her daughter Gloria Eisen, Toronto;
By descent to her daughter, Guelph, Ontario
