Note:

Professor Abels opines that according to the subject, it is an early work by Joachim Beukelaer painted in the style of his uncle Pieter Aertsen in whose workshop it is believed he learned to paint.

This lot is one of several paintings in this auction that demonstrate the pleasures of drinking, gambling, and general merrymaking, a recurrent theme in Old Master paintings.
