Alex Drysdale, Carvers and Gilders and Picture Frame Makers, Edinburgh label to the frame verso;
Private Collection, Ontario
Note:
The daughter of the painter Giovanni Andrea Sirani, Elisabetta was one of the most successful women artists of the 17th century. The original oil on canvas by Sirani, measuring 75.50 x 62.00 cm., was painted for an unnamed Florentine "Cavaliere" the year before Sirani died. It was acquired in Florence from the noble Gerini family for the Royal Institution, Edinburgh, in 1831. Today it hangs on display in the Scottish National Gallery, Accession no. NG 79.
This lot is a 19th century copy by an unknown Scottish artist contained in the original frame with an Edinburgh framer’s label verso.
