Collection of Jane & Ken Wright, Cambridge/Toronto
The collection of Louise Kasiun, 2009
Note:
Glass was a way of life for Charles Kaziun, Jr. Fascinated with glass at an early age, Kaziun first learned by watching a glass blowing demonstration at a local fair and then experimenting on his own using empty coffee cans and used glass as equipment and materials. Later, while employed as a technical glassblower, he spent his evening off-hours attempting to produce paperweights as fine as those made by the French in the 19th century, a goal it is generally conceded that he reached. Charles Kaziun is often credited with contributing to the rebirth of interest in paperweight making in America. He made paperweights from the 1940s until his death in 1992.
Purchased from Bernard A. Drabeck at Roger Jacobsen’s booth at the 2009 PCA Convention in Toledo, Ohio on behalf of Louise Kasiun. Her husband set aside a number of weights for her during his lifetime so that she would have some income after his death.
