Note:

John Adams Whipple was an inventor and photographer. He was the first American to manufacture the chemicals which were used for daguerreotypes, and became a well-know daguerreotype portraitist in Boston. A pioneer of astronomical and night photography, Whipple won acclaim for his early photographs of the moon.
