Typed label verso: “Roland the two-ton sea-elephant...elephant in the Berlin Zoo, which came from the ... Georgia, is to be 9 years old, is 21 feet, 2 tons and is fed with 50 lbs of fish each day. Consuming 150 lbs of fish and can, if necessary, two months at a time....Roland with snout above water, trails his huge bulk in somewhat incredulous fashion. (1931)”

Roland was one of the last Southern Sea Elephants [also known as Elephant Seals (Mirunga Patagonica)] in captivity. He died at the Berlin Zoo in 1936.
