SOLITUDE (A FOLIO OF 11 PLATES FROM WALDEN, SOLITUDE), 1971

Folio of colour and black and white woodcuts, titles including: Solitude, Decaying Beauty, Rain, Winter Serenity, Winter Pond, Autumn Color, Wind, Pine, Spring Visitor, Thoreau, Drop of Life, plus cover Walden Pond, 10 blocks being printed on Hosho mulberry paper handmade by Ichibel Iwano, with the exception of "Wind" printed on Moriki paper. Printed under the artist's supervision at the Press of A. Colish in Mount Vernon, New York, assisted by Bert Clarke, designer of the text. The portfolio was made by Moroquain, Inc., New York. Published by Aquarius Press, Baltimore, New York. Limited edition of 200 copies signed by the artist and numbered 114/200 in pencil to the colophon. Contained in a hardcover folio box with block printed cover. Accompanied by the Japanese-style bound booklet printed on japon paper, “Solitude: An Essay from Walden by Henry David Thoreau, 11 Woodcuts by Naoko Matsubara” inside the folio. In original cardboard shipping box stamped "Matsubara."
