Lot Report

Note:

This characteristic portrait was taken on January 29, 1982 at an Ottawa press conference where the Prime Minister was addressing questions about the Constitution Act and possibility that UK parliament might be hesitant to pass a motion allowing Canada to finalize legislative independence from Britain. Trudeau replied while pinching his nose: “They’ll just have to hold their nose and pass it”.

“I missed that shot, and told myself to sit in front of him and keep the camera focused on him. For that 1/125th of a second, he shrugged after another question. That’s the photo, which appeared on the front page of the Globe and Mail on Saturday, January 30.”
