The Dominion Gallery received this work, entitled in the DG inventory books: “Wakefield on Gatineau River”, on approval directly from the artist in August 1947;
Dominion Gallery, Montreal gallery label verso backing, Inventory No. C402, according to the D.G. inventory books housed at the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa;
“Given to Mr. Ivan Leger”, Montreal by the Dominion Gallery, Montreal on December 20, 1947, the consignor's great grandfather;
By descent to the consignor's great grandmother;
By descent to her daughter, mother of the consignor;
By descent to her daughter, the present Private Collection, Toronto



Note:

Born in Krakó, the artist came to Canada in 1942. By December 1942 he held his first Canadian exhibition at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
