Ovilu has assuredly gained recognition for her contributions to Inuit art. She is among the only Inuit artists to depict nudity and she is on of the first to portray herself as the subject of her carvings.
Ovilu works are celebrated for their simplicity and strong symmetry, appealing to a contemporary aesthetic that favours unadorned geometric forms.
