Literature:
This letter was written to Canadian archivist Douglas Brymner in response to his reply to a request from Roosevelt for historical information about aspects of the Revolutionary war for his ambitious four volume narrative "The Winning of the West'.
Note:
My dear sir,
I sent the check immediately on receipt of your note; I delayed writing until I received the second batch of papers, which was today.
They are copied exactly as I wished, and I am greatly indebted to you for the promptness with which it was done.
Scanning over your printed catalogue I find I may have to trespass on your courtesy again for copies of one or two points I do not understand. For example I don't quite see why the Detroit commander changed his policy toward the Moravians in 1781.
The papers have been very interesting; they prove among other things what i have long suspected, that the Indian losses and numbers were greatly exaggerated at the Blue Licks Crawford's defeat. &c.
With renewed thanks,
Very sincerely yours,
Theodore Roosevelt
To Douglas Brymner, Esq.
