Private collection, Toronto, ON

Note:

Strange and enigmatic, here David Ruben Piqtoukun has imbued one of his signature mask-like faces with decidedly canid features in an image of apparent transformation. Exquisitely carved in variegated grey stone, the mask exemplifies the control of form and surface that can be found in many of the artist’s strongest works throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
