Note:

Florence Wyle (1881-1968) was a pioneer of the Canadian art scene and founding member of the Sculptors Society of Canada, as well as the first woman to be accorded full membership into the Royal Academy of Canadian Art.

In the summer of 1927, prompted by Marius Barbeau, (widely considered to be the father of Canadian anthropology) Wyle travelled with Anne Savage to British Columbia to be among the Gitxsan people of the Northwest Coast.

This totem is part of a small edition completed soon after the trip.
