Note:

Each fine rice paper leaf of this traveller’s guide to Japan is printed on one side only, leaving blank pages in between. In the first half of the book, these pages have been filled with pencilled lessons in English on the French language, leaving the impression that the Japanese soldier was teaching his prisoner about his county and culture, and the Canadian prisoner was, in return, providing French lessons.
