Provenance:

Diane Rowe, Toronto, ON

Note:

Chicago's 'The Second City' comedy club expanded to Toronto in 1973, opening its doors on Lombard Street at The Old Firehall. The Toronto location quickly became a hub for Canadian comedy talent, launching the careers of many comedians and actors such as Martin Short, Andrea Martin, Catherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy and Dave Thomas. The troupe's comedy style was known for its sharp satire, political commentary, and irreverent humour.

Diane Rowe started her career as a make-up artist in the early 1970s at Granada Television in the UK, working on such shows as Coronation Street. After emigrating to Canada, Rowe worked with the Second City troupe at Global TV, on their first television regularly scheduled television show.
