Provenance:

Private Collection, Hamilton, ON

Note:

Compositionally related to two early Inukjuak (Port Harrison) sculptures, lot 138 from Waddington’s Inuit Art Auction, November 2009 and lot 335 from Waddington’s Inuit Art Auction, November 2007. This work by an unknown master of the early Inukjuak style is particularly exceptional for the artist’s grasp of the essential in the face of the figure, and for the monumental presence conjured in the portrayal of humble subject matter. Large in scale for a sculpture of its period from the region, it measures a substantial 12.5 inches (31.75 centimetres) in height.
