  • Attributed to CORNELIUS KRIEGHOFF (1815 - 1872)
  • Attributed to CORNELIUS KRIEGHOFF (1815 - 1872)
Provenance:

Private Collection, Ontario

Literature:

Dennis Reid, Krieghoff: Images of Canada, Douglas & McIntyre, Vancouver/Toronto, 1999, page 200 [plate 118] for Canadian Autumn, View on the Road to Lake St. John, 1862, and page 256 [plate 141] for Chippewa Indians at Lake Huron, 1864, both reproduced in colour.

Note:

Krieghoff would often repeat the composition of his paintings, switching out the figures and other small details. It was common for these related paintings to be titled with locations that are not necessarily depicted. Nevertheless, the paintings are beautiful recordings of people at rest - taking a break from their canoe trips and preparing to enjoy the days meal after a successful hunt.
