Quilt Story: I have always loved African fabrics and a few years ago I was introduced to a lady here on Vancouver Island who has worked in Africa with women teaching them to sew. She also brings their fabrics here to sell and has created patterns for use with these fabrics. So I enjoyed choosing the bright colours to use in this quilt. I have a special place in my heart for African children and so while working on this quilt my thoughts were about these children. One of the wonderful opportunities quilters have is to weave their thoughts and prayers into the stitches of their quilts, choosing their intentions. Cancer has taken special people from my life, including my mother who taught me to sew, but warm memories remain. The warmth of quilts cover the pain we feel with the loss. I offer this quilt in memory of a special little girl Krissy, who touched my life and left us far too soon. The courage of patients who are living with cancer and their families is truly inspiring.
