Concrete Contemporary October 2018

‘It is all part of an energetic and holistic ecosystem driven by the talent of our artists’

Waddington’s has been actively engaged in developing the secondary market for Canadian Contemporary Art since 2011 when we launched the ground breaking Concrete Contemporary Auctions and Projects. Since that inaugural auction, we have set innumerable records for artists whose works had never previously been sold outside of commercial galleries and created national and international profiles for large numbers of our contemporary artists.

At the same time, we have engaged directly with organizations like the Canadian Art Foundation, ArtGems, OCADU’s Project 31, and for 25 years with the Casey House Art with Heart fundraising auctions. These charitable auctions have been instrumental in keeping contemporary art in the centre of public conversation in concert with dedicated and dynamic private dealers and galleries who work tirelessly to promote the work and careers of their artists. It is all part of an energetic and holistic ecosystem driven by the talent of our artists.

Waddington’s is pleased once again to welcome the Casey House Art with Heart auction preview back to our King Street East gallery this weekend. As ever, the deftly curated auction sets a benchmark for quality. Art with Heart has succeeded in large part by putting artists first. The quality of the presentation, the catalogue and the auction venue of the AGO elevates all aspects of this event. We are deeply honoured to be a part of this tradition.

The following week the fall offering of Concrete Contemporary goes online. We are thrilled at this season’s offering, our largest and most comprehensive to date. Artists as diverse as Susannah Heller, Betty Goodwin, Tony Scherman, Jean McEwen, Ed Pien, Otto Rogers, Valerie Palmer, Gordon Rayner, Cathy Daley, Joanne Tod, Brian Kipping, Marcel Dzama among many other blue chip Canadian artists are represented. There are excellent works available by artists from coast to coast to coast. The previews and exhibitions are not to be missed on October 21 from 12 pm to 4 pm and October 22 from 1 pm to 7 pm. Collectors are welcome and encouraged to make appointments for private viewings at their convenience the week prior to the public exhibitions.

We look forward to sharing this rich and wonderful collection of contemporary Canadian Art with you.
