Note:
The 'Mongolian archer' was a popular subject during the Edo period, representing a foreign warrior from the 'Dattan' or 'Orankai' regions, corresponding to historical regions of Tatary and Manchuria. Due to the assumed appearance of these foreigners, depictions of 'dattanjin' varied from netsuke to netsuke.
