Note:
'Kagamijishi', or 'The Kagami Lion Dance', is a kabuki dance that originated from the Meiji Period (1868-1912). Performed alongside nagauta accompaniment, the story follows a young female dancer who slips her hand into a lion head mask and instantly becomes possessed with the spirit of a wild lion.
Hasegawa Sadanobu III is the third of six generations of Hasegawas, a lineage of ukiyo-e artists that started with Hasegawa Sadanobu I (1809-1879). His subjects include kabuki plays, puppet shows (bunraku), and genre painting.
