Note:
The Great Canadian Flag Debate of 1964 was a pivotal political controversy concerning national identity. Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson proposed replacing the British Red Ensign with a three maple leaf design. This sparked fierce opposition from traditionalists. Ultimately, Parliament approved the iconic red maple leaf, officially inaugurating it in 1965.
