Lot Report

Provenance:

Estate of Roland Michener, Governor General of Canada, 1967-1974

Note:

During Michener’s time as Governor General, Canada was going through a massive wave of national identity renewal following the 1965 adoption of the Maple Leaf flag. As Governor General, Michener oversaw Canada’s Centennial in 1967 and passionately supported the "Canadianization" of heraldic and royal symbols. He worked closely with leading Canadian vexillologists (flag experts) and heraldists to update national, vice-regal, and territorial emblems.
