Provenance:

Galerie Walter Klinkhoff, Montreal
Private Collection, Montreal

Literature:

Dennis Reid, Alberta Rhythm: The Later Works of A.Y. Jackson, Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, 1982, page 17.

Note:

A.Y. Jackson’s brother Henry had a summer home in St. Aubert which Jackson visited frequently particularly in the 1940s. St. Aubert is in L’Islet County on the south shore of the St. Lawrence. During the war years, it is possible that the more frequent visits to family were a sign of Jackson looking for a measure of the familiar and comfortable during trying times.
