Note:

Bosqui was born in Montreal in 1832 and emigrated to California in 1850 during the Gold Rush era where he found employment with a banking firm. In 1863 he established the Bosqui Printing & Engraving Co., in San Francisco which produced lithographs and bookbinding.

The Bosqui company published the hand-coloured lithograph “Arctic Oil Works. San Francisco. Cal.” measuring 35” x 43”.

The artist is recorded in Harper’s “Early Painters and Engravers in Canada” as an amateur landscape painter and patron of the arts.

Although unsigned, this view may have been executed by Edward Bosqui himself or by another artist whose painting Bosqui produced as a valuable colour lithograph.
